A pub
was here

A pub was here was an augmented reality installation of the former Carlton Inn and ran from October 1 to December 31 2023 at the corner of Leicester and Pelham streets in Carlton, Victoria Australia.

The future of the site is uncertain but we will continue to post updates on this page.

Thanks to all that came to visit!

The Carlton Inn was built in 1857 and was a popular gathering place for the University of Melbourne Law students and the local Irish music community.

“It was knocked down on the 16th of October following a suspicious fire on the 8th. The heritage listed pub was demolished without a permit. This was even after a Stop Work Order was issued on Saturday morning, before the demolition was completed on Sunday.”
